        July was a very hot and humid month. We started the month off with a 4^th of July Celebration held on July 1^st with water balloon challenge and slip-n-slides. After cooling off with all the water fun, the residents enjoyed juicy burgers from the grill. Also, this summer the residents took a trip to the Barter Theater to see Charlotte’s Web.

Staff members would like to give a pat on the back to one of our residents, Sarah Abbey, for her dedication and hard work in completing the Anger Management Program held at Highlands Community Services. It was a 9 week course that guided her on how to deal with her emotions and dispositions. At the end of the program, she received a certificate.

Learning is something we carry on with us throughout our whole lives. It enhances out understanding and keeps us motivated. As part of our continued learning, August 17^th at 10:00 a.m. we are planning to tour the Museum of the Middle Appalachians located in the small historical town of Saltville, Virginia. Residents should be entertained by the history of the Civil War and how it troubled our local community. We should also acquire information about extinct animals that once roamed that area and educating ourselves about the Native Americans who once lived off the land. The residents will hear stories about our neck of the woods.

We are excited to announce that “Elvis” will be coming to visit and do a show in August! Keep an eye on the Activity Calendar for date and time.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming excitement! This year Greendale’s Got Talent will be held on September 1^st from 1pm-3pm. Feel free to invite your family and friends to show off your talent and hard work. We will be rehearsing in the dining room throughout the month of August. Check your calendars for dates and times of rehearsal.

Don’t forget about our Resident Council Meetings! These are held the 4^th Thursday of each month! All residents are invited to attend to contribute recommendations, questions, and concerns that will help Greendale Home strive to be best it can be.

Autumn is drawing near, so it’s time to start gearing up for our 2^nd Annual Greendale Haunted Asylum! Residents are welcome to participate and volunteers are very much appreciated. All proceeds go toward ensuring the residents have a wonderful Christmas. Are you ready to petrify someone or see if someone can scar the pants off you? Come on out and join beginning October 1^st from 7pm-10pm. Admission prices will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. We hope to scare you there!!!!!
